Second UN Global Road Safety Week – Pedestrian Safety: May 6-12, 2013

Back to news

The United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) has announced that it is holding its second Global Road Safety Week during the week 6-12 May, 2013, this year with a particular focus on Pedestrian Safety.

Pedestrians constitute a major group at risk of death, injury and disability on the road. The Week will contribute to:

  •     drawing attention to the need for pedestrian safety;
  •     generating action on measures which work to increase pedestrian safety;
  •     achieving the goal of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 to save 5 million lives.

Tools are being developed to help organizations plan for the Week. The World Health Organization is working on an advocacy toolkit, a new Pedestrian Good Practice Manual will also be available, and the GRSP would like to get behind this Global Road Safety Week and help share ideas and resources. To this end, we have published a page on our website dedicated to the sharing of information.

For all individuals and organizations with ideas and resources to share, or those wishing to gather information to assist with their plans for the Week, click here. Be sure also to check back regularly as we will update as often as we have more to share.

Together we can save millions of lives.
