Back to news

The Asia Pacific Road Safety Conference took place between 9 and 11 September 2025, held in Manila, Philippines, at the Asian Development Bank Headquarters. This conference was jointly organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), Asia-Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), Bridgestone Asia Pacific, and the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP).

Attended by over 260 participants from over 20 countries across the Asia Pacific region and beyond, the conference brought together governments, international organizations, the private sector, academia and civil society. The conference explored how investing in road safety can lead to more sustainable transport, improved public health outcomes and economic development.

Across the 3-days, participants benefited from a high level ministerial roundtable, insightful panel discussions, engaging workshops, and the opportunity to network and share with other road safety practitioners.

Participants heard from 84 speakers from the ADB, FIA Foundation, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, iRAP, World Health Organization, Bridgestone and GRSP, to name just a few.

Topics covered throughout the conference were focused on exploring key issues related to road safety financing in Asia and the Pacific, such as:

  • Elevating road safety investments and securing commitments for financial support in developing member countries.
  • Strengthening knowledge of current and emerging funding modalities while aligning them with national priorities such as youth, climate change, health, and economic growth.
  • Facilitating collaboration between road safety, finance, and health stakeholders to explore shared funding opportunities.
  • Supporting and enhancing in-country capacity for the development of stronger business cases for road safety funding.
  • Enhancing understanding of current road safety priorities, particularly focusing on powered two-wheeler safety and vulnerable road users.
  • Highlighting emerging opportunities for multi-sector engagement with APRSO to support sustained road safety action.

As the Asia Pacific region continues to face challenges related to road safety, this conference emphasised the importance of continued collaboration and how strategic investment in road safety can help tackle these challenges, while aligning with national road safety priorities.
