Road Safety in Asia 2016 – Event Wrap Up

More than 200 road safety experts, government officials and private sector and civil society representatives joined the GRSP and iRAP teams in Beijing China this week for the 2016 Road Safety in Asia event. Our 9th annual event of its kind in the region, the programme put the focus on the many challenges facing communities, cities, companies and countries in achieving the ambitious goal of the Sustainable Devlopment Goals of halving road deaths and injuries by 2020.

The opening morning featured a World Health Organization ‘Health Dialogue’ with high profile panelists Michelle Yeoh (pictured), Global Ambassador, FIA Foundation’s Make Roads Safe Campaign and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, Lars Fredén, Swedish Ambassador to China, Peter Choong, St Vincent’s Department of Surgery, Melbourne, Australia, and He Yong, Deputy President of Research Institute of Highways, Ministry of Transport, China. The session was moderated by Head of WHO in China, Dr Bernhard Schwartlander, and saw the panelists speak on the successes and challenges in addressing road safety as a public health issue.
