Geneva/Nairobi, [28 April, 2026] – The Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) is pleased to announce that KCB Group has joined GRSP, strengthening private‑sector engagement in advancing safer mobility and reducing road traffic injuries and fatalities across Africa and beyond.

Hosted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), GRSP works with governments, civil society, international organizations and the private sector to support evidence‑based road safety interventions and foster collaboration that leads to measurable, life‑saving impact. The addition of KCB reflects the growing recognition of the critical role financial institutions play in shaping safer transport systems and enabling sustainable development.

Welcoming the partnership, GRSP highlighted the importance of private sector leadership in accelerating progress toward global road safety goals. Financial institutions can influence safety outcomes through employee road safety management, responsible financing, and strategic support for public and community-based interventions that reduce risk on the roads.

Through its membership, KCB will engage with GRSP’s global network to exchange knowledge, contribute private sector insights, and explore opportunities to support multi sector road safety initiatives. This includes promoting best practices in organizational road safety, supporting partnerships at national and regional levels, and aligning road safety efforts with broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) priorities.

Commenting on the partnership, KCB Group CEO, Paul Russo said: “By joining the Global Road Safety Partnership, KCB is reaffirming its commitment to reducing road traffic injuries and fatalities through collaborative, evidence-based interventions that bring together the public and private sectors. We look forward to collaborating with GRSP and its partners to generate policy dialogues and knowledge opportunities to realise positive outcomes across East Africa.”

KCB Group is one of the largest banking institutions in East Africa, with a presence across the region and beyond. Its operations support trade, transport, entrepreneurship and economic growth—activities that rely heavily on safe and efficient mobility. By joining GRSP, KCB Group demonstrates its intent to protecting lives on the road and addressing one of the leading public health and development challenges facing many low and middle income countries.

Road traffic injuries remain a significant cause of death and serious injury, with disproportionate impacts on economically active populations and vulnerable road users. According to the World Health Organization, road crashes claim approximately 1.19 million lives annually, with many more people sustaining serious injuries. Africa bears a disproportionate burden, recording some of the highest road traffic fatality rates in the world.

GRSP looks forward to working with KCB to advance shared objectives and contribute to global and local efforts to reduce road crashes and their consequences. The partnership underscores the value of cross‑sector collaboration in addressing complex societal challenges and reinforces the private sector’s role as a key partner in building safer, healthier and more resilient transport systems.

Together we can save millions of lives.
