THE PROBLEMS

Thai Nguyen City is a hub connecting national highways and inter-provincial roads across 130 kilometers. The city faces challenges such as-

Increasing density of travellers and vehicles

Limited road user compliance with traffic safety regulations due to weak enforcement mechanisms

There were 135 registered traffic crashes, leading to 56 deaths and 109 injuries in 2017

Nearly 20% of the death cases admitted to the hospital following traffic crashes are children

OBJECTIVES

To improve road infrastructure around schools based on results from road safety assessments

To increase road user compliance with national road traffic law

APPROACHES

Improving the road infrastructure around target schools

Creating a local model to enhance child road safety

Raising awareness of road safety and associated laws

Improving the safety of bus transportation for children and young people, particularly for girls.
