Ukraine

Situation

Ukraine

In contrast to many Eastern European countries, Ukraine has experienced high motorisation, and the number keeps growing. Despite this, the overall trend in road deaths indicates a declining incidence in traffic crashes and resulting injuries. To continue this positive trend, the Ukraine has identified key risk factors to address, such as speed and drink-driving.

Programmes

TRACECA Road Safety II

The TRACECA Road Safety II project brought together governments and civil society to actively promote the safety and security of road users, the public, property, and the environment within the Europe-Caucasus-Asia region’s transport corridor.

Safe to School – Safe to Home

Safe to School – Safe to Home incorporates assessment of road safety conditions, the installation of appropriate and low-cost local traffic engineering improvements, extensive road safety education for children, parents and the community, together with enhanced enforcement of helmet wearing, parking restrictions and speeding.

Road user groups

Children:

With around 186 300 children under 18 years die from road traffic crashes annually, it is unacceptable that some countries still do not have legislation regarding obligatory usage and set safety standards for child restraints.

Commercial drivers:

Commercial drivers cover great amount of distance on daily basis and are prone to multiple risk factors due to the vehicle type, conditions on the road and the often the objects that they transport. GRSP dedicates a lot of attention to this road user group because of the impact they have on road safety situation and surrounding road users.
