Europe

The Global Road Safety Partnership activities in Europe and central Asia demonstrate one of the key strengths of our organisation – an ability to facilitate multi-sector, partnership-based solutions on a local, national and regional level.

In over 10 years of presence in the region, we have built successful and strong local partnerships; assisted countries implement effective projects on the most critical risk factors, e.g. decrease in  alcohol related crashes in Poland; supported new legislation changes, e.g. in Ukraine and Romania; initiated regional projects such as on child restraints in Hungary, Poland and Ukraine.

We are also implementing the regional road safety project “Save Our Lives: a regional road safety strategy for Central Europe”. Save Our Lives, or SOL, is a 3 million Euro project co-financed by the European Union. We launched the project along with 12 other partner organisations in 8 countries, which means we are reaching farther than we could ever do alone.

Save Our Lives aims to improve road safety within eight countries of the Central European Space. One of the unique aspects of the programme is the approach of combining sustainable mobility with road safety, specifically targeting lorry drivers and bicyclists, freight companies and school children, and public transport officials and pedestrians.

The ultimate goal: a long-term vision to free the region of road crash death and injury.

The Global Road Safety Partnership experience outside of Europe is of particular interest for us – it helps find new ways and solutions in our own country.
