GRSP global and regional activities

GRSP is part of a global coalition which works to reduce death and injury on the world’s roads. This involves advocacy to raise the issue up the global political and development agendas, and activities which have a global impact or potentially wide application.

GRSP is a leading member of the UN Road Safety Collaboration. This worldwide group is chaired by WHO following the unanimous approval by the United Nations of resolution 58/289 calling for further strengthening of international cooperation in road safety. The Collaboration meets twice per year, and is progressing an agenda of advocacy and practical activities.

Under the umbrella of the Collaboration, four leading agencies - World Bank, WHO, GRSP and FIA-Foundation - are jointly producing a series of good practice guides on the critical risk factors identified in the World report on road traffic injury prevention. Link to guides

GRSP also plays a leading role in the Global Road Safety Steering Committee. GRSP contributes to the global advocacy efforts of the Committee, and works to raise road safety up the priority list of regional and national governments.

GRSP is a contributor to the global Transport Knowledge Partnership (gTKP), an initiative of the UK DFID. This partnership is a programme to support and promote the generation, management, dissemination and uptake of transport knowledge in developing and transition countries. It has a number of foci in its work, one of which is road safety. GRSP is seen by gTKP as a principal player in road safety. gTKP offers an internet platform for those seeking transport knowledge, and GRSP features strongly.

Working closely with PIARC, through its road safety committee, GRSP and PIARC have prepared joint publications with a global impact - such as Keep Death of Your Roads . GRSP and PIARC also collaborate on training courses and the development of good practice.

GRSP collaborates with a number of other organisations involved in global initiatives, which have an interest in road safety amongst their activities. Prominent in this list are
