Australasian Road Safety Conference, 14-16 October, 2015
The inaugural Australasian Road Safety Conference (ARSC2015) is shaping up to be big after an overwhelming response to the call for abstracts announcement saw more than 280 submissions received for consideration by the conference scientific committee.
The conference will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Queensland, Australia, from 14-16 October and merges Australasia’s two former road safety conferences, the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) Conference, and the Australasian Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference (RSRPE).Professor Narelle Haworth, CARRS-Q Acting Director and Conference Chair said the conference organising committee has been thrilled with the level of interest shown by the Australian and overseas road safety and injury prevention communities in this new event.
“Covering a wide variety of topics and themes relevant to the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety, abstract submissions have been received from all over the world, from both established and emerging road safety researchers and practitioners. Overarching themes include Road Safety Management, Infrastructure, Safe Vehicles, User Behaviour, and Post Crash Care,” said Professor Haworth.
“With the theme of ‘Taking Action Together’, the conference programme promises a dynamic showcase of the latest in research, practice and developments in road safety, coupled with important insights from our keynote speakers including: Dr Barry Watson, CEO of the Global Road Safety Partnership in Geneva; Gavin Smith, CEO of Bosch Australia; and Professor Brian Owler, President of the Australian Medical Association,” added Professor Haworth.
The scientific programme, featuring keynote, oral and poster presentations, and interactive symposia, and will be released on Monday 13 July.
ARSC2015 is expected to attract over 400 delegates working in the wide range of portfolios and industries who contribute to improving road safety outcomes. This includes: infrastructure construction and maintenance; behavioural science; education and training; emergency services; engineering and new technology; health and rehabilitation; police, justice and law enforcement; local, state and federal governments; communications; traffic management; and vehicle safety industries.
Mr Lauchlan McIntosh, President of the Australasian College of Road Safety is encouraging all who work in the variety of areas covered by the conference to join this inaugural event.
“The Conference will bring together our leading researchers, practitioners, policy-makers and front-line emergency personnel with a common focus on reviewing where we are at, where we need to go, and how we can reduce road trauma in the years ahead,” said Mr McIntosh.
