Renault launches first masters programme for road safety management in arab world

Thanks to Renault, a valuable partner of the Global Road Safety Partnership, the first Masters programme of its kind in Road Safety Management now exists in the Arab world. Through its corporate foundation, the leading automotive French group has partnered with the prestigious Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Lebanon to establish a Multidisciplinary Chair for Road Safety Management. "The road crashes rate is twice more in the region than in Europe”, affirmed Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Renault-Nissan.

GRSP MENA's Road Safety Management Workshop

The Global Road Safety Partnership for the Middle East and North Africa (GRSP MENA), has the pleasure to announce its first workshop within the framework of the EU-MENA support programme. The event will be held in Brussels on the 22nd and 23rd of May, 2012.

Under the theme of "Road Safety Management", this workshop will bring together road safety practitioners and decision-makers from the Southern Mediterranean beneficiary countries to examine road safety issues and situation in their respective countries and to get practical tools for managing road safety and reaching their target.

MENA: A regional road safety approach kicks off

Introducing a culture of road safety in the Middle East and North Africa region has never been easy. Yet it has never prevented the Global Road Safety Partnership from making efforts, and now the hard work of previous years has crystalized into an active work plan for 2012, coupled with a financial commitment to make it happen. 

With one million Euro, the European Union is entrusting the Partnership to carry forward a three-year, capacity building and support project in ten countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia.

The year 2011 is ending with a new start for the Global Road Safety Partnership team in the Middle East and North Africa region. The team recently began collaborating with a new partner, the European Union (through the European Commission), within the framework of a new project entitled "EuroMed Transport - Support to the MENA Road Safety Programme".

Total is present in 130 countries worldwide, and their efforts for road safety are steadily expanding - not only as member of the GRSP Executive Committee, and not only with their road safety initiatives in the Africa/Middle East, but additionally, now as a partner of the Global Road Safety Initiative Phase 2 (GRSI-2).

New Animation Campaign Exposes the Hidden Dangers on the Roads Which Kills 3,000 Everyday

On 11 May 2011, at the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety, the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) and YOURS - Youth for Road Safety have initiated an innovative campaign to build awareness and end death and injuries on the roads.

STEVE - a quirky, lively and poignant animation was developed through discussions at the First Regional Youth Assembly for Road Safety in Oman in February 2011. Deaths due to road crash injuries is the number one killer of youth between 15 and 29 years old.

For more than three years I've been dreaming that every newborn child in Oman will leave the hospital not only with love and affection, but also a car seat. I have worked very hard over the past two years to make this dream into a reality. And recently, while giving the first car seat away as part of the Awladna Initiative, I feel that I am truly making a difference in the behaviour of people in our society.

Youth connect around road safety

Solidarity, connectivity and making a positive change for road safety through social media were among the key themes addressed at the first Regional Road Safety Youth Assembly in Muscat, Oman in mid February. Entitled, 'Connectivity and Moving Forward,' the three-day assembly hosted by the Government of Oman, with technical support from the Global Road Safety Partnership, included representatives from 24 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region who exchanged expertise and discussed various issues related to road-crash death and injury.
